Monday, January 20 10am - 1pm Suggested donation: $10-50 Facilitated by Evan Miller and Nancy Coiro
We live in uncertain and precarious times. Fear, disinformation, division, and injustice are rife in our communities. Against the background of a rapidly changing climate, environmental degradation, and mass extinctions, we have a divisive and difficult political climate. Many in our community feel alone and frightened and angry. There is a strong tendency, in this environment, to shut down, to go numb.
Individually and collectively we cannot shut down and go numb. We cannot succumb to our fear and our anger.
Honoring our Pain for the World is a practice of lament and truth telling developed by Joanna Macy as part of her Work that Reconnects. It creates a container for individuals to come together and express their fear, their pain, their anger, their numbness in the face of these challenging times. Out of this container may arise seeds of hope and action to stand in truth for our love for the world. Out of this container we find connection to counteract the tremendous loneliness of our world.
The Work That Reconnects is a larger body of work designed to help us live and work in these troubled times with our hearts intact. Evan is in the process of creating a Community of Practice in Goshen for the Work that Reconnects.
We will start with a gathering time, and we will ground the practice in gratitude. During the practice you will be invited to express yourself in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Following the practice there will be time for debriefing and preparing to move back into the world.

Facilitators:
Evan Miller - I am a spiritual companion with a long history at Pathways Retreat. I am a relatively new student of the Work that Reconnects. I find in the Work a collection of practices that enable me to be present to our troubled times with my heart intact. It also nurtures the well-being of our communities, something we desperately need. The work aligns well with Pathways’ mission of rest, reflection, and renewal.
Nancy Coiro - I'm a student of meditation and a mindfulness teacher. I have guided the Work that Reconnects for several years. I am both fascinated and perplexed by humanity, and I understand that our reintegration into the web of life offers us and the planet a chance at a future. While my heart grieves our current situation, I see glimmers of hope and possibility through the practices of the Work that Reconnects. We are all in this together.
