Evan J. Miller
Evan Miller is a spiritual director and business leader. He retired in 2018 as CEO of Hertzler Systems, a computer software and consulting company. He received his Master of Arts (Education) from Ball State University, and his training in spiritual direction from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. He is certified in Appreciative Inquiry from Case Western University. He is a contributor to An Open Place: The Practice of Group Spiritual Direction, edited by Marlene Kropf and Dan Schrock. He took his Rites of Passage at Sandstone, Minnesota in 2009. In 2015, Evan completed a two-year study of the Christian mystical tradition at the Center for Action and Contemplation's Living School.
Evan is also a skilled facilitator in Sociocracy, an organizational governance model that fosters radical self responsibility and deep employee engagement through equivalence, transparency and effectiveness.
Evan is especially interested in the intersections of spirituality, leadership, and organizational governance. His mission is to help leaders of both faith-based and secular organizations grow spiritually, and bring their whole, maturing selves to their leadership role, regardless of the context.
Evan is widowed, following the death of his wife Sara VonGunten. He lives in Goshen, Indiana. He has two children, three step-children, and is grandfather to three, and step-grandfather to five. He is an active participant in the Open Table Mennonite Fellowship, and an avid ecologist, gardener, bicyclist, and violinist. He can be reached via e-mail.
