The Land is Calling...
Project Plan
Outdoor Pavilion
The pandemic raised awareness of the need for an outdoor, covered space for groups to gather. The pavilion is a response to this need. It will be an open, protected space for prayers, programs, and group gatherings. The octagon-shaped structure has been designed as a unique space, featuring a roof that allows light to enter and a labyrinth on the floor. A hard-surface walkway will provide access to the retreat house.
Land Restoration
Nurturing creation is one of Pathways’ six values. Living this value, nearly three acres will be planted for beauty and biodiversity, restored with native prairie grasses and wildflowers for a healthy ecosystem. Restoring the
land involves removing invasives, and paying attention to what the land wants and cooperating with the generative forces of nature.
In this open space, boulders for sky gazing will complement Pathways’ wooded areas and trails.

The Tree of Hope room features a sculpture by local artist Sunday Mahaja, on which guests can tie strips of cloth for personal prayer, similar to the traditional Celtic clootie (cloth) tree. This sculpture has already been purchased and installed using funds that came in for the campaign early.
Guests are invited to offer their prayers by tying a rag strip to our Tree of Hope. Strips of natural fiber cloth, which will biodegrade without littering the landscape, are provided near the sculpture.

Hammock Room
A shaded area located underneath mature pine trees will provide space for guests to rest in hammocks.
